Here at Gettel Toyota Gainesville, we do our best to ensure that you drive off the lot with a safe and reliable vehicle. We want to make sure you have the answers that you need to feel confident about what to do if a recall happens to your specificnew orused model. Of course, if there is a question that we did not touch on that you’d like an answer to, feel free to stop by or give us a call and one of our knowledgeable staff members will be happy to help.
A safety recall is issued when the manufacturer or National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a part of a vehicle is defective, and if the vehicle is driven with this defective part, it can cause a safety concern. Most of the time, the part is specific to a certain model or a part that is common among many different models. In the event of a recall, the manufacturer will contact the dealer and the owners who have registered their vehicle; this way, the owner of the vehicle can take their vehicle back to the dealership to get repairs on the parts to ensure their safety.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) is a federal agency that oversees vehicle safety standards. They investigate safety defects and enforce regulations on vehicle performance.
If your vehicle or a part of your vehicle is subject to a safety recall, this means the manufacturer or NHTSA wants to ensure that your vehicle doesn’t cause a safety problem for you or others while on the road. If your vehicle is recalled or a part of your vehicle is recalled, be sure to bring it to the dealership you purchased it from so they can perform repairs. For more information, you can go tohttps://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle has been recalled and find out the next steps to take.
If you find a vehicle that you like on our website and are wondering if there is a recall or could be a recall on that vehicle, we’ve got you covered. Click on the link titled “NHTSA VIN look-up” and it’ll bring you to the NHTSA website where you can explore different models to see if they have a recall or are subject to a recall.
On the website, you can easily put in the vehicle’s vehicle identification number (VIN) or the make, model and year and get information about any recalls. In addition to this link, our dealership will also provide you with a CARFAX® report where you can find out if there were any repairs done to the vehicle, see its history and check if CARFAX® has found any recalls.
Although both of these sources are credible, we are not affiliated with NHTSA or CARFAX® and cannot guarantee that the most up-to-date information will be provided.
If you purchase one of our Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles, we want you to know that we do our best to ensure that the safety and repairs of the vehicle are suitable for it to be driven. But, sometimes that isn’t possible due to the nature of the recall or availability of parts. Each and every person who purchases a CPO vehicle has an opportunity to view the CARFAX®.
Please take into consideration that the manufacturer is the source of the recall and that there could be a delay between when the recall is issued and when we have the information in our database. Repairs can also be delayed due to not having the parts right away. Although we do our best, we can’t guarantee that every vehicle on our lot will be recall-free.
If your vehicle is subject to a recall, the manufacturer will send you information by first-class mail and let you know that your vehicle is subject to a recall and inform you of the safety risks associated with driving your vehicle with the recalled parts. The manufacturer will get your mailing address through your state’s registration office (where your vehicle registration information goes), so if your address has changed, be sure to update the registration information.
We also recommend that you register your vehicle with the manufacturer. When you do this, you can receive important information about your vehicle from the manufacturer. You can also subscribe to email notificationshere and the NHTSA will send you notifications based on the year and make you provide them when you sign up. They will not send you notifications on your specific vehicle, but if there is a recall, you’ll get general information about it.
If your vehicle is subject to a recall, it’s pretty simple. Take your model to a manufacturer-authorized repair facility and they will repair your vehicle at no extra cost.
